Why Oblique Is One of the Best Social Media Agencies in Malaysia

Any social media agency in Malaysia can show you a pretty feed. Here are the brands we run social for, what the content did for each business and how a month of work gets made.

By the Oblique team·Kuala Lumpur

If you are comparing social media agencies in Malaysia, ask each one to show you a post that sold something, the brief that came before it and the name of the person who filmed it. A feed can look good and still do nothing for the business behind it. Those three answers tell you which kind you are looking at.

Oblique is a Kuala Lumpur agency founded in 2016. We plan, script, film, edit, post and report on social content for brands across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and LinkedIn, and the same team runs brand strategy and paid ads for most of them. Every video is shot and cut in-house, so the people who write the brief are the people holding the phone.

What should a social media agency prove before you sign?

It should show a number the content moved, such as sales, bookings or enquiries. Followers and reach are a start, but ask what happened next: bookings, enquiries, sales, sign-ups. If the agency can only talk about engagement rate, you are buying activity rather than results.

Ask who makes the videos. Many agencies plan the calendar in-house and send the filming to a freelancer, which is how a brand ends up with posts that look like three different companies made them.

Then ask what they do with a post that flops. A good answer names the metric they read, the change they made and how quickly they made it.

Which brands do we run social for, and what results did they get?

The results below are published on our social media and brand strategy pages with the client named.

Client What we did on social What changed
Getha A 50-year-old Malaysian mattress maker. We moved the feed from product shots to the people who make and sleep on the mattresses, then built the content and KOL work around the Transforme launch 8-figure revenue from the Transforme launch
Grand Rally Pickleball A new pickleball club with no players yet. We built the brand, then ran launch films and the everyday clips that gave players a reason to show up Membership sold out within the launch period, and a full community calendar one month after opening
MIP Properties An old-school property agency with a model that was hard to explain. We built the brand and website, then the social content that made the model easy to understand for agents Agent headcount up 280%

We also run content for Sommni, Holistq and Grandmama's, and you can watch the work itself in the reels on our social media page.

Why do we film people instead of products?

Because people stop scrolling for a face far more often than for a product on a white background. When we took over Getha's social, the feed was almost all product. We started filming the factory floor, the staff and the customers who had slept on Getha for decades, and the brand began to look like what it is: a family company with fifty years of craft behind it.

Filming people also means listening to them. At Grand Rally we ran a regular series of street interviews with players. In one batch, several of them mentioned how hot the courts got. The club took that as a brief and installed six more ventilation fans. At Grand Rally, social media was most useful for hearing what players wanted, and it did that before it sold a single membership.

We see the same pattern in the numbers. On a health brand we run, founder videos and posts about real customers have consistently beaten hard-sell creative, so we shifted the monthly mix toward them.

How do we make a month of content?

Every month runs on the same loop. The step most agencies skip is the last one, where the best organic posts become the next round of paid ads.

One month of social content, start to finish WEEK 1 Brief Pillars, audience and what last month's numbers told us. WEEKS 1 TO 2 Script and shoot Written, filmed and edited in-house. You approve before posting. WEEKS 2 TO 4 Post and reply Scheduled posts plus replies to comments and messages. MONTH END Read the numbers Saves, profile visits and website clicks. More of what works.

Winning posts become paid ads Proven organic content goes to the ads team

What won feeds next month's brief

That last arrow is why social sits next to performance marketing in our team. A post that earned saves and shares without a ringgit behind it has already been tested on real people, so it starts life as an ad with evidence behind it. Our piece on building a content engine in Malaysia goes deeper on how that system compounds.

Which platforms should a Malaysian brand be on?

Usually two, picked by where your buyers already spend their time. Malaysia had 30.7 million social media user identities in October 2025, equal to 85% of the population, according to DataReportal's Digital 2026 Malaysia report. The same report lists each platform's advertising reach:

Platform Reach in Malaysia (late 2025) Where we use it most
TikTok 30.7 million adults aged 18 and over Consumer brands, launches, younger buyers
Facebook 23.0 million users Older buyers, property, local services
Instagram 16.1 million users Lifestyle, food, beauty, premium products

DataReportal flags that TikTok's figure exceeds Malaysia's adult population, so read it as a sign of scale rather than a headcount. LinkedIn sits outside this table but earns its place for B2B brands, where one decision-maker matters more than ten thousand views. We would rather run two platforms well than four badly.

What does a social media agency in Malaysia cost?

Our social retainers usually run between RM5,000 and RM25,000 a month, depending on the number of platforms, how much video is in the plan and whether paid amplification sits in the same scope. Our social media management cost guide breaks down what each price band buys across the Malaysian market, from freelancers upwards.

Who should not hire us for social media, and who should?

If you want daily posts at the lowest possible price, a freelancer or a template studio will give you more volume per ringgit than we will. We are also the wrong agency if the brief is to copy what a competitor posts. We start every account with an audit and a strategy, and if the strategy says to post less and film more, we will tell you.

We are the right fit when social has a business job to do: launch a product, fill a venue, change how an old brand is seen.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best social media agency in Malaysia?

The best one for you is the agency that can show content from a brand like yours and a named result that followed it. Oblique publishes three, including Getha, where the content and KOL work behind the Transforme launch drove 8-figure revenue. Hold every agency on your shortlist to that standard.

Do you film the content yourselves?

Yes. Scripting, shooting, editing, photography and design all happen in-house in Kuala Lumpur. You review and approve every piece before it goes live.

How long before social media shows results?

Most brands see clear growth in audience and engagement at the three to six month mark when posting is consistent and the strategy is clear. Launches move faster: Grand Rally had a full community calendar within a month of opening.

Can you take over from our current agency?

Yes, and we do it often. We start with an audit of what is already live, keep what is working and rebuild the rest.
