Why Oblique Is One of the Best SEO Agencies in Malaysia

If you are shortlisting SEO agencies in Malaysia, the only thing worth comparing is what each one has actually moved. Here are Oblique's numbers, its method and its pricing, laid out in full.

By the Oblique team·Kuala Lumpur

If you are shortlisting SEO agencies in Malaysia, the only comparison worth making is what each one has actually moved. Client logos and certifications tell you nothing. Ask instead for the traffic, the ranking positions and the business outcome that followed.

Oblique is a Kuala Lumpur agency founded in 2016 that has worked with more than 350 businesses. On the SEO side, five of those engagements have published numbers, and they cover grocery retail, student accommodation, pet e-commerce, industrial plastics and safety footwear. That spread is the point: the same programme has to work for a B2B supplier selling roofing sheets and a consumer brand fighting Shopee for category terms.

What search in Malaysia actually looks like in 2026

Three numbers frame the job.

Google holds 92.99% of Malaysian search, on StatCounter's August 2026 reading. Malaysia has 35.4 million internet users at 98% penetration, per DataReportal's Digital 2026 report. And organic search still carries 53.3% of all trackable web traffic, roughly three times paid search, in BrightEdge's channel share research.

So the demand is there and it is concentrated in one place. What changed is the click. Seer Interactive tracked 53 brands across 5.47 million queries and found organic click-through on queries carrying an AI Overview sitting at 2.36% in February 2026, against 3.82% on queries without one. That gap is the new normal, and it is why an SEO agency that only sells rankings is selling half the job.

The results we can point at

Every figure below is published on our SEO service page and traceable to a live site.

Client Sector What moved
Village Grocer Premium grocery retail Traffic up 1,500%, from 2,000 to 120,000 monthly visitors, on short-tail terms like "supermarket" and "grocery store"
Mulford Plastics B2B industrial supply Traffic up 1,340%, 96% of keywords on page one, 83% in the top five
Aspida Footwear Industrial safety footwear Traffic up 500% in six months, 88% of keywords on page one within three
Sunway House Student accommodation Traffic up 350%, every tracked keyword on page one in three months, occupancy back to 85%
Petico Pet e-commerce Average tracked position from 30 to 9, most of 35 category keywords in the top three, now cited by name in Google's AI Overviews

Sunway House is the one we point at most often, because occupancy is the number the client actually cared about. Rankings were the mechanism. A full building was the outcome.

How the work sequences

SEO pays back on a curve, not a line, and the order of operations decides how steep that curve gets. We fix the foundation before adding content, because publishing onto a site Google cannot crawl properly is money spent twice.

When SEO actually pays back Each phase only compounds if the one before it is finished. 1 Audit and fix Technical, content and backlink audit. Quick wins land inside the first 30 to 60 days.

Month 0 Month 3 Month 12+

Agencies that skip phase one and start publishing in week two are the reason most SEO retainers get cancelled at month six.

Four things we do that most Malaysian SEO agencies do not

1. We audit before we quote. Every prospect gets a technical audit before the pitch meeting, not after the contract. Sometimes that audit tells us the site needs a rebuild before SEO is worth funding, and we say so. It is a slower way to sell and a much faster way to get results.

2. Technical and content sit on the same team. The common Malaysian setup splits them: a technical contractor on one side, a freelance writer on the other, and nobody owning the gap. We run website builds and SEO under one roof, so Core Web Vitals, schema and crawlable architecture are build requirements rather than audit findings.

3. SEO and GEO are one programme. The structured, well-sourced content that ranks in Google is largely the same content that gets quoted in ChatGPT and AI Overviews. We run GEO and SEO together for that reason, and Petico now appears by name in Google's AI answers as a result. If you want the longer argument, we wrote it up in SEO vs GEO and how to get cited by ChatGPT.

4. We do not buy links and we do not guarantee rankings. Bought links are a liability sitting on your domain waiting for an algorithm update. A guaranteed number one is either a lie or a keyword nobody searches. We commit to the work and report the trajectory honestly, including the months it goes sideways.

What it costs and who it suits

SEO retainers at Oblique run from RM 8,000 to RM 30,000 a month, set by content volume, technical scope and how contested the keyword set is. For where that sits against other disciplines, see our guide to Malaysian agency pricing.

We are a good fit if you sell something with real margin, you can wait two quarters for the curve to bend and you want organic search to become an asset you own. We are a poor fit if you need leads next month, in which case performance marketing is the honest answer, or if you want a cheap monthly report with no intention of changing the website.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best SEO agency in Malaysia?

There is no single answer, because the right agency depends on your sector and your timeline. What you can do is compare on evidence. Ask each shortlisted agency for a client in a comparable sector, the starting position and the position twelve months later, and whether the technical work was done in-house. Oblique publishes five such results with named clients and live sites, which is a reasonable standard to hold any agency to.

How long before SEO produces results?

Technical fixes can show inside 30 to 60 days. Content-driven ranking movement usually takes three to six months. The compounding growth that changes the business generally arrives from month six and keeps building. Sunway House and Aspida Footwear both hit page one on most tracked keywords within three months, which is fast, and neither is a promise we would make in advance.

Is SEO still worth funding now that AI answers questions directly?

Yes, with a caveat. Click-through on AI Overview queries is measurably lower, so traffic-only forecasts are now optimistic. The work that earns an AI citation is largely the work that earns a ranking, so a single programme serves both. What has to change is the reporting: rankings and sessions alone no longer describe the return.

Can you take over an existing SEO programme?

Yes. The first 30 days are an audit of what the previous agency did. Sometimes there is a solid foundation to build on and sometimes there is damage to undo, and either way you get a written picture of where the site actually stands before we plan anything.

Do you handle e-commerce SEO?

Yes, and it is a different job from service-business SEO. Crawl waste, category page depth and product schema carry most of the weight. We covered the full method in our guide to e-commerce SEO in Malaysia.

Start with the audit
