Why Oblique Is One of the Best Web Design Agencies in Kuala Lumpur

Most web design agencies in Kuala Lumpur will show you a nice homepage. Here are the sites we built, what happened to each business after launch, and what a build with us costs and takes.

By the Oblique team·Kuala Lumpur

If you are comparing web design agencies in Kuala Lumpur, ask each one for three things: a live site they built, a number that changed for the client after launch and the name of the person who looks after the site in year two. Far fewer agencies can tell you what a site did for the business that paid for it.

Oblique is a Kuala Lumpur agency founded in 2016. We plan, design, build and maintain websites in Webflow, Next.js, Shopify and WordPress, and the same team also runs brand, SEO and paid ads for many of the businesses whose sites we build. A site built by people who will later have to rank it and send ad traffic to it gets built differently.

What should a web design agency in KL prove before you sign?

It should prove the site worked after launch day. Ask for the live URL first, then open it on your phone over mobile data rather than office Wi-Fi.

Then ask what changed. Enquiries, bookings, organic visitors, sales: any of these will do, as long as the agency can name the client and the number. If the answer is an award or a mood board, you are looking at a studio that hands over files and walks away.

The third question is about year two. Websites decay. Plugins age, pages get added by whoever has the login, and the speed you paid for slowly disappears. Ask who fixes that, how often, and whether it is in the price.

Which sites have we built, and what happened after launch?

Every result below is published on our website design page with the client named and the live site linked.

Client What we built What happened
Sunway House Rebuilt the student residence's website and its search visibility end to end, at a point when occupancy was at its lowest Organic traffic up 350%, monthly visitors from 1,500 to more than 10,000, every target keyword on Google's first page within three months, occupancy back to 85%
Commerce Access Brand foundation first, then the website and lead generation for the BPO behind Malaysia's e-Perolehan, so it could win clients beyond government work 800 leads in the first six months
Grand Rally Marketing site, members' portal and event booking for a new pickleball club, all before public launch Brief to public launch in eight weeks
Valvewerkz A B2B manufacturing brand and website that carries the sales story across six South-East Asian markets One site serving buyers in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Thailand

Sunway House is the one we point to most. A student residence lives or dies on occupancy, and students choose where to live by searching. So the rebuild covered the information architecture, the design, the build and the technical SEO as a single job, with nothing handed to a second vendor halfway through.

Commerce Access shows the other order of work. Their site could not be written until the business had decided who it was for outside government contracts. We ran that brand work first, and every page after it got easier to write and easier to convert.

Why do we treat speed as part of the design?

Because a slow page loses the sale before your visitor sees the design. Deloitte's study with Google, Milliseconds Make Millions, found that making a mobile site just 0.1 seconds faster lifted retail conversions by 8.4% and travel conversions by 10.1%.

Google publishes the targets it uses to judge page experience. A page counts as good when its largest element loads in 2.5 seconds or less, it responds to a tap within 200 milliseconds and its layout barely shifts while loading, all measured on 75% of real visits, per web.dev's Core Web Vitals guide. We treat those three numbers as launch gates. A page that fails one does not go live, however good it looks.

One team from first brief to year two WEEKS 1 TO 2 Strategy Audience, sitemap, user flows and the content brief, locked before any design. WEEKS 3 TO 10 Design and build Run side by side. Each approved part goes to staging as soon as it is signed off. BEFORE GO-LIVE Three speed gates Loads in≤ 2.5s Responds in≤ 200ms Layout shift≤ 0.1 EVERY QUARTER Care Data review, tests and content updates, so the site improves instead of decaying.

Most website trouble starts at a handover between strategy, design, development and maintenance. We keep all four with the same people, so nothing gets lost between teams.

How does the site connect to your brand, SEO and ads?

Your website is where every other channel either converts or leaks. When we build a site, our SEO team writes the schema and page structure into the spec before design starts, rather than patching them in after launch. Our paid team gets landing pages made for each campaign, not the homepage with a new banner on it. And if the positioning is unclear, we recommend brand strategy upstream of the rebuild, because a site with nothing clear to say turns into a brochure.

If your current site already gets traffic but few enquiries, the cause is usually one of a handful of fixable problems. Our guide to why website traffic is not converting walks through them.

What does a website with us cost, and how long does it take?

Marketing sites at Oblique usually cost between RM60,000 and RM200,000, depending on page count, integrations and how much content we write. E-commerce and custom platforms run higher. Most projects take eight to fourteen weeks: marketing sites of up to thirty pages in eight to ten, larger e-commerce or content-heavy builds in twelve to sixteen.

That puts us at the top of the Malaysian market. Our website cost guide for Malaysia shows the full range, from RM1,500 landing pages upwards, and explains what each price band buys.

Who are we the wrong fit for?

If you need a five-page site live next week for under RM10,000, a good freelancer or a template studio will serve you better, and we will tell you so on the first call. We are also the wrong agency if the brief is a site that looks like a competitor's. We build for what your customers need to see before they enquire, and copying another company's site skips that question.

We are the right fit when the website has a commercial job to do: fill a building, win a new kind of client, launch a business on a fixed date.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best web design agency in Kuala Lumpur?

The best one for you is the agency that can show a live site in your category and a named result after launch. Oblique publishes four, including Sunway House, where organic traffic rose 350% and occupancy returned to 85% after the rebuild. Hold every agency on your shortlist to that standard.

Which platform should my website be built on?

It depends on who will run the site after launch. Webflow suits marketing sites your team wants to edit without a developer. Next.js suits custom logic and heavy integrations. Shopify suits product-led stores and WordPress suits large editorial libraries. We build on all four, so the recommendation follows your brief.

Will a new website rank on Google?

A well-built site removes the technical reasons it would not rank. Every Oblique build launches with schema, clean page structure and passing Core Web Vitals. Rankings still depend on content and authority over time, which is why most clients pair the build with an SEO retainer.

What happens after the site goes live?

Most clients move onto a care retainer covering hosting, monitoring, content updates and a quarterly round of improvements based on real visitor data. The site you launch is the starting point, and it should get better each quarter.
